Dear Ole Dad

It is Father's day and thus far I have received "Happy Dad's Day" text messages from my brother and sister in law and a coworker. (Tio) We have been trading smack over the up coming Tiger-Longhorn series up in Omaha at Alex Box North. Oops I just got a text from Little Cat's mommy. And The Rock Star Mentality just came to our bedroom and showed me her new lip piercing. Ok now I got another text from a new Dad, my son in law.

My father, T.W. will have been gone 10 years this coming December. Of course, I miss him but I can honestly say that I did not leave anything on the table with him.

He and his father, my Grandaddy (Dit), were actually best friends. I always thought that I should have been best friends with my Dad. I felt that really never got to that point but as I grow older I am beginning to think perhaps we were. I am satisfied our relationship was a good one.

T.W. was a good and wise parent and I guess I can only hope that my offspring will be able to truly feel the same way of me.

I could write on and on about T.W. But last night I was laying in bed and thinking about him and my first new car.

As I have mentioned in earlier postings, my first car was a 1965 Blue and White four door sedan Chevrolet Impala with a 283 V-8 four barrel. After about a year I purchased my father's company vehicle which was a 1968 White four door sedan Chevrolet Impala (which I promptly wrecked the first week I had it). I drove that land shark for about a year. It got terrible gas mileage and my mother began to suggest that I consider getting a car that got much better fuel economy. Gas was selling for about 29 cents per gallon at the time but there were rumours that the price would be going up to nearly a dollar per gallon. Mother suggested that I look into this new car called a Toyota. I went and looked at one but to be honest, I would have rather walked that drive one of those. They were not even close to being sporty. I had been watching commercials and reading Car & Driver and I had my sites set on the all new Chevy Vega GT. It was small and sporty. It was supposed to get good gas mileage and Chevy was claiming they would not change the body style for at least 5 years. If I were to by one I could essentially have a new car for 5 years.

I began my campaign to sell my parents on the idea. Dear old Dad seemed as if he really did not give a shit. I kept telling him how great the Vega GT was. On a Saturday he and I drove over to Red River Chevrolet. Before long I was behind the wheel of a brand new 1971 Chevy Vega GT. The salesman made a big mistake. When we went to test drive the car, he sat in the front seat and let my father squeeze into the small area known as the back seat. I realized pretty soon that Dad was just not "buying". Even as I drove around downtown Bossier City, Louisiana, I realized my dreams of owning a sports car were over. As we walked into the showroom I realized that my father was about to tell the salesman thanks but no thanks. There between the babyshit yellow Monte Carlo and the Red Corvette was a light blue metallic Camaro. "What about this one?" My father inquired. My heart froze. "Sorry but that one is sold" replied the salesman. "Surely you have more of them in stock don't you?" "Sure"said the salesman. and within a few minutes we were outside looking at rows and rows of camaros. Dad loved the color blue and he seemed pretty acceptable to the idea of upgrading my Vega GT dreams as long as the car was blue. There were at least 50 Camaroes on the lot and none of them were blue. I was speechless. In a short while he found a light green (Cottonwood Green) camaro. It was pretty stripped down and only had a six cylinder in it. But it was a Camaro. Right then and there he told the salesman he wanted it. And the deal was struck.

It was amazing. Later that day we received a phone call that the car we picked out was actually sold as well. We were about to drive back over to the dealership but Dad said he would go alone. I argued but I did not want to press the issue. Since my parents were paying for the car (I was to work and pay them monthly) I felt I had better let Dad do as he wanted. Later that evening he returned and told me that he picked an avocado green one and this one had a V-8 rather than a six cylinder. He told me it seemed to be a little bit sportier. I was thinking how could a green car ever be sporty. But trust me I was very happy non the less. He and my mother would pick it up the following Monday and drop it off where I was working as a payroll clerk (UPS) as a summer job.
Around 4:30 they showed up and I ran out into the parking lot. A lot of the drivers were getting in and were all looking at my brand new 1971 Z-28. Holy Shit it was not only a camaro but a Z-28 with a 330 horse power 350 cubic inch LT1 engine with a 4 speed Hurst shifter. On that day I realized my father really was cool. Left up to me I would have been tooling around in a Vega GT instead I had a real sports car. A few days later I have Craiger slotted mags placed on it and I installed a Pioneer eight track tape deck with four speakers. I was riding around in Shreveport in the hottest car around listening to Spirit singing I Gotta a Line on You. Life was good.

All because of my Dad

Thanks Dad.

Kim Chee

I thought I would just post a protest song as my tirade but to be honest I do have another tirade.
I realize our military is stretched a bit because of Iraq and Afghanistan but lets get real here.

Bomb North Korea into the stone age. Leave nothing except the buried kim chee pots. Kill them all! We can not be pushed around by this bush league country. End it now. We are viewed as the bully so lets show them we can be one. Our enemies need to know we can be as ruthless as their propaganda spouts we are.

It's Thursday Tirade Time Again

Well once again it is Thursday and I feel compelled to expel some weekly rage.
I supposed I could inform you about the bike being built by OCC on TLC June 15, 2009,for Jon or Jon and Kate or the exciting news about Adam Lambert (who knew?). I also read this morning that Kendra has a bun in the oven. Lets finally admit it that we as a people love "tawdry". It is in our nature.

But I turn my weekly wrath to a touchy subject. Politics

I guess you could say I am a conservative liberal. Last year during the general elections two men squared off in the senatorial race in the state of Minnesota. You know the state that elected a former WWF Professional wrestler as it's governor. Anyway the incumbent republican Norm Coleman appeared to win the election over Democratic challenger and Harvard grad Al Franken by less than 300 total votes. Of course there was a recount and it revealed that Stuart Smalley oops Al Franken had actually won by a little over 300 votes. this resulted in another recount and another and another all reflecting that Franken had won the election. But the Republican party and Mr Coleman has taken this matter to court and the fate of the election is now in the hands of the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Yes it is very true that # 88 a former Purple People Eater , a past NFL MVP of the Year and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will have input into who shall serve the people of the (not so) Great State of Minnesota in the United States Senate.

My bitch?

Enough is Enough. What will the Republicans not do to hold up the voice of the people? President Obama won for a lot of reasons. A primary one is the Grand Old Party is a ship without a rudder. An aging curmudgeon war hero from a war we would all like to forget and Hockey Mom from America's frozen wasteland would not, could not and did not "make it". And what are the Republicans doing now. They are being led around by good old Newt.

Will George W. go down in history as Millard Fillmore did? The last of his party to be President. As long as the elephants behave the way they have been, I hope so.

One last thing.

I wonder if the custom "bike" will have training wheels.

I'm Voting for Kinky

Calling a Spade a Spade

Yesterday, while I was goofing off , my wife turned the TV on to a reality show called "Kendra". It is a spin off show of The Girls Next Door. Kendra Wilkinson is a 2003 high school graduate from San Diego, California. Back in 2005 when she was still too young to legally drink, she attended a party at the Playboy Mansion and caught the eye of a 78 year old Hugh Hefner. Shortly thereafter she became a live in girlfriend (along with two other young girls) of The Hef and a a reality show followed. She has since split with Hefner and is engaged to marry a NFL football player. She is planning a wedding this month and ole Hugh is giving the bride away. She claims she lost her virginity at the age of 14 and was indeed sexually active with the aforementioned Mr. Hefner. In turn his production company and his money established her notoriety as well as leasing the house she currently lives in and the nice new Lexus she drives. Where I come from if you have sex for money it qualifies you for the title of (wait for it ).....................................................WHORE !

Well to be honest it is pretty well established that whores have been around longer than brewers.

------------
Over the last few weeks I have been re-living my times back in the Summer of 69. I have been listening to a lot of music from that era and of course music from the soundtrack of the movie "Woodstock"

I have read over my most recent posting and I have to admit that my writing style is not as fabulous as I had convinced myself that it was. What prompted me to write about my experience was a conversation I had with the Prodigy a few weeks ago. She stated that she never recalled me discussing that I actually went to Woodstock before. I tend to be pretty open about my life's experiences. I just have not discussed my Woodstock experiences very often, at least not up until recently. I have mentioned it to her before but she does not seem to recall it.

I bring all of this up somewhat as an apology for my scribblings. It was way too long and convoluted. I could just as easily stated "I heard about it. I planned to go. I went. I had a great time. I returned. It was cool." I could have but for some strange reason I wanted to relive the experience more in detail. I suppose this being the 40th anniversary and all might be the culprit.

I mentioned the use of "herbs" a few times in my last post. Yes I admit it I did inhale. It has been quite a while since I did. I am neither bragging or making an excuse about my use of it back then. It was just what we did. If it should come out when I am a popular reality star I feel my honesty about it now will make the media purge more bearable.

I guess you can see I have not submitted many postings of late. I certainly have had the time. I just have lost the muse. It is frustrating actually. My wife was beginning to believe I really was writing my blogs and not perusing Internet porn. I avoid Internet porn now days since I hear it is laden with computer viruses and such. I really am trying to keep this blogging machine as clean as possible. But then again perhaps I should "google" for some Kendra Wilkinson nude pics. I need to see who my competition is.

The "Chronicles" are coming.

All Bugs Are Insects . . .

Well burning CDs seems to be addicting and like I said I really had a difficult time deleting various tracks. So I have come out with volume two and three.

Two is somewhat more subdued but still has a rock to it.

Three is more southern rock and roll and contains some longer tunes that seemed to be the norm back in the 70's.

I shall list the tracks of these two CD's in a future musing.

I read The Jim's comments and I tend to agree with his criticism somewhat.

Although they are not top on my list, I do like Queen. Believe it or not in England, they rank second only to the Beatles for the most popular music group of all time. If you are into the Highlander thing you have to like Who Wants to Live Forever. I am listening to it as I type this blog. I nearly added it a couple of times on the CDs. It just did not have that Rock Punch. It should be Adam Lambert's first single though.

And just to be fair, I am not a big Aerosmith fan. I included one of their tunes simply to round out the CD. When selecting the tunes I was thinking of my co workers/revelers and some of their favorites band. It boiled down between Aerosmith and Journey. I have stated before that I can not tolerate Journey, even if "The Dog" played for them at one time. The Aerosmith tune I picked was not really that big of a hit but it tends to rock pretty good even though it starts out as an acoustic song.

Ok, So here is my Thursday Tirade.

So why are they referred to as Gay's and Lesbians?

Aren't lesbians gay females? I freely admit that I am not attracted sexually to members of the same sex as I. As a Roman Catholic, I accept the Church's teaching that homosexuality is sinful and perverse. But I also accept the Church's teaching that we should love everyone and be able to forgive anyone. I am not convinced that persons are simply born gay. The idea that a man is inside a woman's body or vice a versa is something that I do not buy. I truly believe it is a copt out. I do however, believe that some people have more and some have less sexual drive than others. Hell, I love sex but to be honest, I do not think about it 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I hope that does not mean that I may swinging the other way. I have said it before, I would not mind being gay if I did not have to have sex with other dudes.

Now you may believe I am conflicted or undecided in this matter. Your observations are incorrect. Personally I feel that if persons prefers to be "close" to someone that is their natural right to do so. Futher, I believe it is none of my (or yours) business to judge.

I know people who are gay. I know they are and they make no secret of the fact. I do not discriminate my friendship or respect of them. They are as much God's children as I am.

But that brings up the concept of Gay Marriage. Have you ever heard the expression "separation of Church and State"?

Did you know that those words are not specifically used in our republic's constitution or any of its subsequent amendments? It is a theory. The State does not want the Church telling it what it should do and likewise the Church is not too thrilled of being controlled by the State. It is a happy compromise that from time to time is messed with. Good examples of what I mean by "messed" are crosses on government property that people want removed,or the word "God" being removed from our currency, or the removal of prayer in school. Now I seem to be sliding somewhat off track but let me right the sails. If you read the New Testament (you can choose any number of versions or translations) you will learn that the first of Jesus Christ's miracles was at a wedding. He changed water into wine. He did so at the insistence of his mother and depending how you interpret the passage, you tend to feel he may have been pressured into doing it and was not too happy with dear Mother Mary. He referred to her as "woman". Marriage is an institution that has been around obviously before Christ. I do not know exactly when the concept first started. Perhaps with Adam and Eve. Most scholars will agree that marriage was in reality, an affirmation of a bond sanctioned by both the public and a god. (note lower case).

When I was much younger, if two people lived together and if they were of the opposite sex, it was referred to as "shacking up". Well sorta. My cousin Mike attended the University of Arkansas. His parents, my aunt and uncle found this 15 acre home site in the Ozark Mountains not too far from Fayetteville. They purchased the house from a little 72 year old woman with the conditions of the sale, she be allowed to continue to live in the house. She cooked some of Mike's meals and washed his clothes. So I wonder if it could be could be said that Mike and the old lady were shacking up. Ha Ha Ha, I even referred to her as the old lady. Because Mike and the old lady lived under one roof for nearly four years, The State of Arkansas considered that they were "married" by "Common Law".

Now on the other hand if two guys roomed together or two women did the same, they were just roommates.

So by now this whole tirade is pretty convoluted.

So I will get to my point.......In summation (see I am getting to a conclusion) It is my belief that "civil unions" should be allowed . Insurance and succession issues (ie. inheritance and spousal benefits) would apply equally regardless or the couples gender or genders. Civil Unions would and should be as legally binding as what we state marriage is today. By definition they are the same as marriage. Each could refer to their "spouse" as husband wife or whatever term "floats their boats" These unions should be reciprocal from state to state just as our current marriages are. Once a "union" is made, then it can and should only be dissolved by a civil authority. On the other hand, the Church should dole out marriages.

To prove I am not hypocritical, The Mrs The Third and I were "wed" by a Justice of the Peace of Harris County Texas on June 28, 1989. Each of us had been "married" before. Both of those weddings were conducted in "a Church" Hers in some "heretic" Church and mine in a Catholic Church. Both of our previous marriages were "legally" ended by a Divorce Decree issued by a State of Texas, County of Harris Court. It took over five years before the Catholic Church "annulled "our previous marriages. For my non Catholic readers the process of annulment essentially determines if there was really a "marriage" or a civil union. Within a week of receiving the annulment decree the Mrs The Third and I were "married" in the Catholic Church on February 10 1995.

But if you ask, we did not celebrate our fourteenth anniversary a few months ago. We will celebrate twenty years of wedded bliss one month from today. Since we were wed our respective former spouses have each been married 3 separate times. Or should I say they have each had 3 civil unions.
But my Thursday Tirade would not be complete if I did not admit I am not too hip about "flamers" or "dykes".
